COVID-19 Frequently Asked Questions
How will you monitor the symptoms of COVID-19?
Each parent and child will go through a daily screening process upon arrival, which will include a health check prior to the child entering the play space. Children’s symptoms will continue to be monitored throughout the day and temperatures will be taken when children appear ill or “not themselves.”
How will your program practice social distancing, as developmentally appropriate?
-Seating for meal times will be spaced farther apart and family style serving will be suspended, instead children will be served their meal pre-plated.
-Nap mats will be spaced as close to 6 feet apart as possible with children lying head-to-toe positioning.
-Play areas will be spaced farther apart with as much time as possible being spent outside.
-Families are limited to 1 person (ideally the same person each time) dropping-off and picking-up their child and are encouraged to remain in the drop-off area during these times to maintain distance from other children and provider. Families are also asked to stagger their arrival in order to eliminate adults congregating. -Contact with external adults and groups will be limited. Non- essential travel will be avoided and non-essential visitors will be denied entry.
How will you ensure hygiene, including regular cleaning and disinfecting?
-Strict hand hygiene practices, washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, will be followed at minimum, upon arrival, before and after meals, after wiping noses, sneezing or coughing, after diapering or using the bathroom, or when coming inside.
-Toys and equipment will be sanitized daily or after each use. -Common shared areas and items will receive a daily deep clean such as sinks, bathrooms, doorknobs and tabletops.
-Blankets will be used by only 1 child and washed at least weekly. All fabric toys will be washed after each child’s use.
How should items brought from home be handled?
-Items brought into the childcare program should be limited in order to reduce the chance of transmitting the virus.
-Car seats should not be brought into the home or left during the day.
-Toys should be left at home or in the vehicle.
-Extra supplies such as diapers, wipes and clothes can be brought in a disposable (plastic grocery) bag.
How will you use safety equipment, including PPE, where appropriate?
Adults and household members will wear masks. Children 2 years and older will wear masks as tolerated except for meals and nap.
What is the communication protocol for families to report symptoms or a positive test?
Families should report possible illness as soon as possible by contacting Summer Lettau at (517) 927-0100 if anyone in the child’s household shows symptoms or has tested positive for COVID-19,
What is the policy about when children will be excluded from care?
-If anyone in your household has shown symptoms or tested positive for COVID-19 or if your child has been in contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19.
-In addition to the standards of the illness policy outlined in the parent handbook the following symptoms are cause for exclusion from care:
Rapid or difficulty breathing
Persistent cough
Temperature over 100 degrees
Cold symptoms
Diarrhea
Vomiting
Fatigue
Extreme fussiness
Rash
-If an individual in the program tests positive for COVID-19, the program will be closed, and everyone should be quarantined for 14 days initially.
What are the isolation procedures in case of symptoms or confirmed cases on site?
A child with signs of illness will be isolated from the group as best as possible and parents will be called with the expectation of a quick pick-up. Parents are then asked to contact the child’s medical provider.
When can children return to care who have shown symptoms or had a positive COVID-19 test?
If a child exhibits multiple symptoms of COViD-19, you suspect possible exposure, or an individual tests positive for COVID-19, the individual must stay home until:

What will happen if the provider or a member of the provider’s household tests positive for COVID-19?
Families will be notified immediately and childcare will be closed pending guidance from the local health department.
