I have been working with young children since 1993. Early experiences with young children included working with an early elementary special education classroom. I immediately formed substantial bonds with the children and could see the impact I had on their lives. I worked with this classroom for 2 ½ years before going to college.
My college experience began as a dance major. While in college I taught dance and helped to develop and run a creative arts preschool. The desire to work with children continued, so I started working in a child care center, working my way up to a teaching position.
Prior to opening my family child care home in 2007, I worked in a center as a teacher for 9 years. During this time a started a family and went back to college getting an associates degree in early childhood and a preschool CDA credential. I have discovered that this is the field I am drawn to most. Watching children grow, overcome obstacles and develop successfully is the reason I work with children each day and the reason I continue to learn and grow myself.
In addition to working with children I enjoy helping other early childhood professionals increase their skills. I have served as the Treasurer for the Central Michigan governing board for the National Association for the Education of Young Children as well as the Family Child Care Liason. I present at conferences on various topics including curriculum, positive interaction and building relationships.
