Daily Routine
7:00am – 8:20am
Children arrive, greet each other, eat breakfast, read books, play math games, do puzzles, draw or play with small manipulatives. School-age children will also get ready and leave for school during this time.
8:20am – 8:45am
Children journal, write, draw, read books or assist with breakfast cleanup.
8:45am – 9:00am
Children have the opportunity to participate in a whole group experience, which may include; stories or songs, project work, webbing or adding to our question log, introduction of new materials, and time to discuss the plan for the day as well as plan for their own daily activities.
9:00am – 10:15am
Children explore and interact with the materials of their choosing. All areas are available for play including blocks, art materials, texture, dramatic play, books, manipulatives, science, math, writing, puzzles and games. Specific activities such as unique art explorations, science experiments or math games may also be available during this time. Children will also assist with the clean up of toys and materials throughout this time and/or at the end.
10:15am – 10:30am
Children will transition into the outdoor environment during this time. Group songs and stories as well as time for each child to share personal stories and successes about their morning will be woven into this time. Children are encouraged to independently dress themselves with shoes/boots and outerwear as much as is appropriate for their level of development.
10:30am – 11:30am
Children are encouraged to be active and explore the outdoor environment. Along with utilizing the materials available in the back yard, the group may also take walks in the neighborhood, visit a nearby park or help in a neighbor’s garden. Children will assist with the clean up of materials as they are finished or at the end of the play period.
11:30am – 12:45pm
Children will participate in the preparation and set up of lunch whenever possible. Children will eat lunch served family style. This time is also used for children to reflect on their morning and share stories about their discoveries. At the end of the meal children participate in the clean up and the preparations for nap/rest time.
12:45pm – 1:15pm
Children will read and/or listen to stories as they prepare to nap or rest.
1:15pm – 3:15pm
Children will typically nap during this time. However, if a child does not nap then they will rest while the other children are going to sleep or about an hour depending upon the child’s needs. As children get up there are quiet activities, books and journals available for them.
3:15pm – 4:30pm
Children will be able to continue resting if they choose during this time. As children awake more play areas will become available. Snack will be served and children will be part of the preparation, set up and clean up of this whenever possible. Following snack we will go outside, time and weather permitting, until the end of the day.
